GP Appointments

Throughout the pandemic High Field Surgery has remained open for patients and has also so far delivered over 5100 Covid vaccinations.

Early last year NHS England requested that all GP surgeries move to an appointment system where all initial consultations with Doctors were by telephone or video, in order to reduce the risk of virus transmission. High Field Surgery followed this model, and every patient that the Doctors deemed required a physical examination was invited into the surgery for this to take place.

This model has worked successfully, and large numbers of patients have told us they prefer the option of consulting over the telephone where appropriate. Nevertheless we understand this system isn’t for everyone and others much prefer an initial face to face consultation.

Appointment Changes

With effect from 17 May NHS England have now made a change to their protocols, allowing us to adjust our booking system.

From 17 May all GP appointments will remain telephone appointments by default, because the majority of patients have told us they prefer this. However if there is a clinical need to be seen face to face, or you would prefer to be seen face to face please tell the receptionist on booking and they will change the appointment.

If you are booking online, please add a note to the appointment when booking that you would like to be seen face to face so we can change the appointment.

You must not book or attend a face to face appointment if you have symptoms of Covid-19. If you think you have Covid-19 you should follow this NHS guidance.

Attending a face-to-face appointment

If you are attending the surgery for a face-to-face appointment, please remember to wear a face covering. Measures are in place to keep you safe from infection during your visit to the surgery. If you have a disability or condition which means you cannot wear a face covering or you need to make any other adjustments before your appointment, please let the surgery know ahead of your arrival.

Appointment Availability

Since the lifting of the third lockdown demand for NHS services nationally has been at record levels, and High Field surgery is no different. Please be aware that we have a limited supply of appointments and the level of demand means you may have to wait for the next available appointment. Patients can help the NHS manage this demand by choosing the correct service for their problem.
